On November 10, 2018, over 1,000 Marines, sailors and family members came together to celebrate the Marine Corps' 243rd birthday. The event was a huge success, and will continue to grow. A special thanks goes to all the volunteers who helped organize the Ball, and to those who donated time, money and energy into making it a success.
On November 11, the city of Leon Valley (which is located along Bandera Road and is completely surrounded by the city of San Antonio), will honor local Marine LCpl. Steven J. Perez, who was killed in action in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom on April 13, 2006.
LCpl. Perez was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton, CA and was forward deployed near Fallujah, Iraq when he was struck down.
Leon Valley will dedicate the bridge over Evers Road in his honor on Sunday November 11, 2018 at 1pm.
